Thank you to all those families who sent booster seats for their children and volunteered to driver to the Big Little Science Centre last Wednesday! The kids had such a great time and were buzzing with excitement when we arrived back at school.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK:
- Watching a performance from the Bert Edwards School of Technology Skipping Club
- Beginning a Social skills program, “Kelso’s Choice”, with Mrs. Gobelle and meeting the puppets Kelso and his sister Lilly
- Field trip to Big Little Science Centre - watching experiments about Force and Motion and having fun in the hands-on experiment rooms
- Celebrating the 130th Day of school with Zeroina and a new addition dice game
- Reading book about Family and making our own class-book about why our families are important
- Playing a new phonics game with letter cards and Ms. Gartrell’s “sound wand”
- Watching the movie, "Happy Feet" like scientists and noticing which parts were Fiction (non-realistic) and Non-Fiction (realistic)
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
This week’s Jolly Phonics sounds/letters are “ch” and “sh” (blends). We will work on sorting ch and sh words in our Phonics books and continue to segment and blend words using Ms. Gartrell’s “sound wand”. In Printing, we will continue our lower case letters with t, a and d. In Math, we will work on addition equations with manipulative and numerals. We will also continue to talk about why families are important, similarities and differences between our families, family member roles and graph how many people live in our home with us. In Science, we will begin talking and inquiring about a new topic (which I’ll share about on the blog next week).
REMINDERS/HOW PARENTS CAN HELP:
- Please send a family photo for your child to display on our FAMILY WALL. Your photo will be returned to you at the end of the school year. :)
- If you were unable to attend the Celebration of Learning in April, please send a note with your availability in your child’s Back & Forth folder or speak to Ms. Gartrell.
- Sign and return report card envelopes once you have read the term 2 report card (yes, there are still envelopes that haven’t been returned)
- Bring/leave an extra set of clothes at school in case your child has an accident or gets wet on the playground
- School-wide “Most Magnificent Thing” Project will begin mid-May: it would be excellent if families could help by starting to collect clean recyclables and reusables like:
