This week will be a short, but busy 3.5 days. Thursday is an Early Dismissal at 12:30pm due to Parent-Teacher interviews and there is no school on Good Friday. I was able to meet with most families in February and March. However, if you are one of the few families I have yet to met with, or if you have any questions or concerns, please sign up on the sheet on the hallway bulletin board or send me a note in the Back and Forth folder.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK:
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
This week’s Jolly Phonics sounds/letters are “ng” (as in “strong”) and “v”. I am hoping we’ll have time to do a little Easter-themed alphabet game this week too. In Printing, we will review capital letters that start in the middle: S, A, I and introduce T, and J. In Science, we will create shoebox habitats and wrap up the last parts of our penguin inquiry projects so we are ready to share our learning with our families on April 20th. We are also very lucky to have a special presentation from the AquaVan (a travelling exhibit by the Vancouver Aquarium!) on Tuesday. :)
This week we will continue with the Healthy Living theme by making a class book to review all the healthy habits we have learned about so far. If you have not already done so, please send a family photo (it does not have to be recent, or it can be 2 separate photos if need) so we can add to our “Family Wall”. We will be making a class Family book next week, so I’d like to be able to add a photocopy of each family photo to it A.S.A.P.
April 20th - Celebration of Learning (aka: Student-lead “Brag” Night) from 5:00-6:00pm. The kids are very excited to be the “teacher” and show you all the amazing things they have been learning about penguins. The classroom will be open for families to stop by anytime between 5:00 and 6:00 pm. If you are unable to come on the 20th, please make arrangements with me for another date. I would hate to have any students or families miss out on this special event. Please keep in mind this is not a time to have a parent teacher interview with me (as there will be an opportunity for this on April 13th).
UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS
Big Little Science Centre (BLSC): Weds. April 26th - 10:30-12:00pm
Please remember to complete all parts and SIGN the blue BLSC permission form. We will be needed 5-6 volunteer drivers for this trip (departing school 10:10am, departing BLSC around 12:00pm). Having parent drivers allows us to have this as a free field trip. :) If you are able to help out, please fill in the appropriate part on the permission form. Also note, that all students who require a booster seat will need to bring it to school the morning of the field trip (Weds. April 26).
May 4th and 11th - Gymnastics at TCC - Permission forms and fees will be sent home once I have confirmation about costs from TCC and the school bus. These fun outings are a part of our Kindergarten PE program.
