There seem to be quite a few students and teachers in the school fighting off coughs/colds. Kindergarten especially, is what I call a "germ-factory". If your child is not feeling well please keep him/her home (even if it’s the Winter concert or his/her Busy Bee day) so the germs don't spread to everyone else and we can have a healthy, happy 2-week holiday break. :)
Due to the holiday break, we will not have library this week and our books from last week MUST BE RETURNED BEFORE FRIDAY, DEC. 22.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK:
- Painting patterns on giant candy canes with our Big Buddies
- Talking about Hanukkah traditions and playing a dreidel math game with Big Buddies
- Practicing our winter concert songs on stage
- Continuing our "Countdown to Christmas" class ornament advent tree
- Reading the book “Elf on the Shelf” and having Santa make a special delivery from the North Pole just when we finished the book (he has such magical timing!)
- Naming our class elf - Tinky!
- Printing the last Frog Jump Capital letters N and M in our HWT books!
- Making our Jan Brett inspired art- Hedgie the Hedgehogs in their winter hats
- Zero the Hero’s visit on the 60th Day! We decorated Christmas trees with 60 ornaments!
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
This week’s Jolly Phonics letter and sound is “Dd”. This week we will review all “Frog Jump Capital letters” (F, E, D, P, B, R, N and M) then after the winter break we will move on to the next group of letters called, “Starting Corner Capitals”. We will also continue to compare and contrast a variety of Jan Brett books and traditional stories. We will briefly discuss different winter holiday celebrations and traditions (e.g., Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, etc.)
Our Math Centers this week will be focused around winter activities - sequencing how to build a snowman, stamping patterns, patterning and listening to the “12 Days of Christmas”, and a dice game called “Christmas Tree Roll and Cover”. We are nearly done our “Countdown to Christmas” as well!
