We have our field trip to the Pavilion Theatre this Thursday! The kids and I are very excited to see the play, “The House on Pooh Corner”. The bus will leave around 9:20am so we will be having an early snack before we go. There are a few permission slips that were returned to school last week without a parent signature or contact numbers. I will send these home with the necessary students and be sure to return the completed forms by Wednesday.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK:
- 100th Day of Kindergarten - special math centres with families, fruitloop necklaces, certificates from Zero the Hero himself and his sister, Zeroina
- Presenting our Alphabet Jive book for Read Around the Planet, hearing our Gr.1 Buddy Class’s presentation about Our 5 Senses, and asking them our questions about their brand-new K-12 school and Pleasantville, Alberta
- Making a class book about what penguins do (determining the difference between fact and fiction)
- Watching the rest of “March of the Penguins”
- Roots of Empathy Visit with Wayne, baby Thomas, his mom AND Dad! Baby Thomas loved when we sang for him
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
This week’s Jolly Phonics sound/letters are “ie” and “ee/or” (as in tie, green and door). The kids are continuing to love the Jolly Phonics Smartboard program and they are learning to read 2-5 letter words now! :) In Printing, we will work on capital letters: Y and Z. In Math, we are beginning to tell simple addition and subtraction equations (aka: “math stories”) with objects, our bodies, pictures and numbers. In Science, we will continue being Researchers with our ongoing study of penguins. We are in need of some more shoeboxes or large kleenex boxes before we can start building our miniature plasticine penguins and penguin habitats!
This week we will continue or Healthy Living theme by talking more about healthy eating (specifically the 4 food groups, serving sizes, and “Eat a Rainbow” (eating a balanced diet). We will also begin the Be Safe program this week. A newsletter with info. about this program was sent home last week. Please send a family photo (it does not have to be recent, or it can be 2 separate photos if need) so we can begin making a “Family Wall” and talking about who helps keep us safe and healthy.
REMINDERS/HOW PARENTS CAN HELP:
- Ensure your child keeps his/her toys at home (we have plenty of toys in our classroom already!)
- We are collecting the following empty boxes and we’d love to start using them A.S.A.P :) :
- shoe boxes (any size is great as no boxes have been brought into the class yet)
- large kleenex boxes
- cereal boxes
- Please send a family photo for your child to display on our FAMILY WALL sometime in early March. Your photo will be returned to you at the end of the school year. :)
- Scholastic Book Orders - due March 15th (Scholastic orders are a great way for classroom teachers to earn coupons for purchasing new books for our class library!)
