HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK:
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
This week’s Jolly Phonics sound/letters are another vowel team “oa” (as in goat). Please ask your child to review and teach you the Sound Group #3 sheet that was sent home on Friday. The kids are continuing to love the Phonics Smartboard program and they are learning to read 2-5 letter words now! :) In Printing, we will finish the last “Center Starting Capitals”: J . By the end of this week, we will have practiced all 26 capital letters! We will begin printing lowercase letters next week.
In Math, we are beginning to tell simple addition and subtraction equations (aka: “math stories”) with objects, our bodies, pictures and numbers. Friday is our 110th Day of Kindergarten, we will have to wait and see if Zero the Hero comes back because the 100th day has already passed!
This week we will continue or Healthy Living theme by talking more about healthy eating (specifically the 4 food groups, serving sizes, and “Eat a Rainbow” (eating a balanced diet). We will also discuss how to avoid spreading germs (proper hand-washing and personal hygiene) and keeping our bodies safe using the Be Safe program. A newsletter with detailed info. about the Be Safe program was sent home last Friday.
We also have a special guest visit us this week, her name is Priscilla William and she will be speaking to us about First Nation culture and the seasons. We will also be using recyclable materials to make our own rainmakers!
