Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I can’t believe how quickly two weeks flew by!
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
This week our new letter is “Dd”. This is the last letter in Sound Group 2 (c/k, e, h, r, m, d)! In Math, we will continue to focus on printing numbers and representing those numbers through games and activities. Our themes this week will be reviewing school expectations, winter (snow), and reviewing the Jolly Phonics sounds we’ve learned so far. In the next week or two, the students will begin focusing on printing their first and last names when they come in first thing in the morning. We are also going to begin to read our classmate's names (without the assistance of their picture beside their names).
The students will notice a big, exciting change as soon as they come into the classroom on Monday...our coat cubbies have been moved down the wall into our classroom space! Hopefully this extra space means there will be less congestion and chaos during arrival and dismissal times. However, this means all our outdoor snow boots will now need to be left in the hallway on the boot racks (look for the posted sign with “Ms.Gartrell’s Class Boots”). This also means lunch kits can stay close by in backpacks now too! :) With it being a new year, I am encouraging parents to drop their child off at the classroom door (this will also help create a calmer start to our mornings). The students have had many months to learn our morning routines and we are continuing to work on developing independence. By all means, please come into the classroom in the morning if you need to speak with me.

REMINDERS/HOW PARENTS CAN HELP:
- Please be sure to send back a change of clothes for your child, as we sent home all clothing over the Christmas break. Also, please check that your child's inside shoes still fit, as the children have done a lot of growing since September!
- Return completed DECEMBER HOMEWORK CALENDARS - prize draw will be Jan. 7 or 8th
- Sign and return your child’s report card envelope so it can be re-used next term and so I know you’ve read about your child’s progress :) (the report card is your copy to keep)
