WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
This week is Literacy Week, which means there are fun events going on throughout the school and Kamloops. The “Unplug and Play” challenge begins on Monday. Remember to hand in your completed challenge forms next week so your child can be entered in a draw for a prize. Also be sure to check inside the "Unplug and Play" challenge handout for special events happening in the community. Here are a few Literacy Week activities we can look forward to:
Our new letter this week is Uu - a special vowel letter! In phonics, we are working on identifying the first sound and letter we hear in words. In Math, we are continuing to work with numbers and are getting ready for a visit from Zero the Hero for our 80th day of school! We are continuing with our theme of Penguins as well. Please remember to have your child practice reading each mini-book that is sent home.
The kids and I are very excited to have a Smartboard (interactive whiteboard - similar to a jumbo tablet) now installed in the classroom! We have spent a lot of time talking about how to take care of and respect this wonderful, but EXPENSIVE piece of technology. There are still quite a few technical kinks to work out, but I’m hoping we can be using it daily very soon.
Jane did a great job as our Star Student last week. This week it is Keirra’s turn to shine in the spotlight. On Friday, one new student will be bring the Star Student bag home.
On Monday there is an assembly at 1pm in the Gym where the students will learn about families living in a garbage dump in Nicaragua as part of the "Change for Change" drive (coin fundraiser will occur from Feb. 9-12th). Proceeds from the PAC Cookie Grams are also being donated to our initiative.
