Happy Family Day! ;) I hope you have had some quality time with your family this weekend. Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. It is also very helpful if you label your child’s winter gear. Most days, recess and lunchtime are “outside” activities. However, if the weather is too cold for outside play, Mrs. Gorman will make an announcement and there will be “inside” options to choose from.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK:
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
This week’s Jolly Phonics letter is “Bb”. In Printing, we will continue working on “Magic C Capitals”: Q and G. The students have really loved playing the “Quiet Machine” (pbskids.org/lions/) and “Word Machine” games (starfall.com) on the Smartboard. We will also continue to focus on using “inventive spelling” (sometimes we call it “kid writing”) where students try to print all the prominent sounds they hear in a word (e.g. apple = apl). In Math, we will begin counting to 100 by 5s and 10s.
This week, we will continue to focus on family and friendship. We will start making our class book about Families, so if you haven’t already done so, please send a family photo as soon as possible. Your photo will be returned to you at the end of the school year. It is also helpful if you write your family members names on the back of the photo (or stick on a post-it) so I can help the children spell names correctly. :)
We will celebrate Valentine’s Day this Wednesday 14th. Remember to bring your Valentine’s “mailbox” bag and any valentines cards on the 14th. We will deliver valentine cards just before or after lunch. Thanks to those families who signed up to bring a treat to share on Wednesday. We have plenty of snacks accounted for, so we won’t be needing any more at this time. We will likely have our Valentine’s treats around 1:00pm after lunch outside play (to ensure the kids eat most of their own lunches first). Chinese New Year also begins at the end of this week. I am hoping we will have some time to work on a craft with our Big Buddies.
100th DAY OF KINDERGARTEN –at this time I do not have any adult volunteers for 100th Day Math Centers. :( I am needing a minimum of 4 adult volunteers, as it is not possible for me to run all these centers without adult support. The Math centres will happen between 10:35-11:55 am on the 21st. If you are able to help, please contact me or sign up on the hallway bulletin board outside our classroom. Thanks for your help! :)
Lastly, Kindergarten Registration for the 2018-2019 school-year runs from Feb. 13-16th. Please have proof of address, birth certificate and Care Card for your child. See this website for more information: http://www3.sd73.bc.ca/general/content/kindergarten-registration. Registering at this time (rather than waiting until the fall), really helps the district determine classes and staffing for the upcoming year. Please spread the word if you know families with 4 or 5-year-olds in our Parckrest catchment (or any area in Kamloops for that matter)!
