WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
Parkcrest will take part in our school-wide, “Math Fact Monday” which is a fun way to celebrate mathematical thinking. Students in the school will wear name tags with an equation/math-related concept (for Kindies a dot patterns on a die, letter or shape patterns ABCABC) and call each other by their secret “Math Name” for the day. The Norman Foote music concert will be on Monday at 6:30pm in the Parkcrest gym. Parkcrest Family Math Night will also be held this Thursday from 6-7pm. Families (students must be accompanied by an adult) are invited to come learn and play some fun math games.
Please remember to sign and return Gymnastics permission slips with the $13 fee by this Tuesday. We will continue with School-wide running every Monday, Wednesday and Fridays right before the lunch bell. Just a heads up, I have made arrangements for two upcoming Friday field trips in June (I’ll announce where we are going at a later date :) ). I will be asking for parent-driver volunteers later in May. With Kindergarten students we always have car and booster seats to consider, so we usually need 5-8 parent-drivers.
Our new phonics sound and letter and sound this week is “x”. We will also spend time reviewing “y” (for yellow, but also as “shy y” vowel as in fly). The students will finish up reading and completing activities about various nursery rhymes so we can begin a new learning theme in May! We will also discuss and complete activities for Autism Awareness Day on Thursday.
The kids reached their “Read to Self” stamina goal of 10 minutes of quiet, independent reading this week! :D We celebrated with some frozen yogurt popsicles (the perfect reward treat since we’d spoken so much about yogurt for our “y” phonics story/action). In Math, we will work on subtraction equations using storylines and characters. Zero the Hero (or maybe his sister Zeroina) will come visit the kids on Monday for our 130th day of Kindergarten (I was mixed up on our “days in school count” due to Pro-D last week).
