WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
In addition to the Halloween excitement this week...our Jolly Phonics letter is "Pp" and we will practice printing numerals 1-5. We will continue talking about the letters in each others’ names by making Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees (based on the book) and learning about where letters start with a catchy song (nearly all letters and numbers at the TOP)! We will also read books about “Listening Larry” a character who teaches children to listen with their WHOLE BODIES. The “Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?” book has been such a hit, that we will be making a Halloween themed mini-book, “Black Cat, Black Cat What Do You See?.

Halloween Celebrations:
- Halloween Primary Dance in the gym - 10:30-11:15am
- Please refrain from sending candy to school in your child’s lunch (during this Halloween season, but also in the future).
- Students are welcome to wear costumes to school provided that:
- they can use the washroom independently (can take costume on/off by themselves if necessary)
- It is comfortable - they can move freely/easily (can sit at carpet & at tables)
- no masks or accessories
- school appropriate (no violent costumes or weapons – even if they are props)
- If your child’s costume does not meet these requirements, he/she is welcome to wear orange and black to school on Halloween. :)
REMINDERS/HOW PARENTS CAN HELP:
- ALLERGY UPDATE: PEANUTS are now safe (other tree nuts such as walnuts, hazelnuts, etc. are still allergens) to have in our classroom. Eggs that are cooked into baking are also safe (e.g., muffins, cookies, etc).
- Dress your child appropriately for the weather each day (the weather is getting chilly!)
- School-wide Scholastic Book Fair in library Nov. 6-8th. Our class will have a “Book Look” time (where students get to preview the books) as well as two “Book Buying” times (during this time, only students with money will be going to the book fair). With Kindies, I find it’s easy (and more secure so money does not get lost) if parents purchase books WITH their child during our class book buying times or after school. If your are sending money to school for your child to purchase a book, please clearly label the money and put it in the Back and Forth folder. I will post a blog update once I know our class’s Book Buying dates and times.
