WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
It’s going to be an exciting week with our first field trip, Pumpkin Math Stations AND meeting ROE baby Thomas! Thank you to those families who volunteered to help with supervision for the Pumpkin Patch: Nadine Brooks, Noralee Quast, Cheryl Whitehead and Courtney Ball. We will meet you at Sunset Valley Farms (3275 Tranquille Road) between 9:05-9:15am. Adult Volunteers will need to pay a few dollars for the tractor ride and corn maze. Each volunteer will be responsible for supervising a group of 4-5 Kindergarten students (I will assign the groups when we are at the farm).
We will focus on the letter "Ii" this week. I is a special letter because it can make 2 sounds (a vowel)! We will continue talking about the letters in each others names and begin learning about where letters start (nearly all letters and numbers at the TOP)! The “Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?” book has been such a hit, that we will be making a Halloween themed mini-book, “Black Cat, Black Cat What Do You See?. Zero the Hero will also be visiting the class on Friday for our 30th day of Kindergarten!
We will also explore and learn about PUMPKINS through stories, music, math and science. The kids will use their five senses to brainstorm descriptive words, sequence the life cycle, and make many predictions and observations during our pumpkin math stations! We will learn about circumference, weight, whether pumpkins will sink or float, count seeds, etc. I would love to have 1-2 adult volunteers for our PUMPKIN MATH STATIONS - THURS. OCT. 27th from 10:25-12:00pm. The sign-up sheet is on our hallway bulletin board. If you are volunteering it would be wonderful if you could arrive around 10:15 so I can explain the stations before the kids come inside from recess play.
UPCOMING EVENTS: Halloween celebrations!
Please refrain from sending candy to school in your child’s lunch (during this Halloween season, but also in the future). I am also asking parents to refrain from sending Halloween goodies for the whole class. I do my best to follow a Healthy Schools policy in my classroom and do not give out candy or sweets as prizes. Healthy, nutritious snacks are so important to a child’s learning and overall development. Eating candy and sugary treats at school creates "hyper" behaviour, which then leads to sugar-crashes (and most often social problems and challenging behaviours). We have a Halloween Dance and some special activities planned, so that’s a treat already :). For future reference, if you want to send something special to school for your child’s birthday, please speak with me about some healthy options (e.g., fruit-kabobs or tray, veggie tray, homemade muffins, etc). Thanks in advance for your cooperation with this matter. :)
Halloween Dance in the gym October 31 - the primary students are welcome to go to the dance or the playground during lunch (12:15-12:45pm). Kindergarten students will need to eat their lunch before they go to the dance.
Students are allowed to come to school on Monday in costume provided that:
