WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
It’s going to be an exciting week with our first field trip and Pumpkin Math Stations! Thank you to those families who have spoken to me about volunteering to supervise at the Pumpkin Patch. Having 2-3 more adults would be excellent. Please contact me on Monday or Tuesday if you are able to help. We will meet you at Sunset Valley Farms (3275 Tranquille Road) around 11:30am. I believe adult volunteers will need to pay a few dollars for the tractor ride and corn maze. Each volunteer will be responsible for supervising a group of 4-5 Kindergarten students (I will assign the groups when we are at the farm).
We will focus on the letter "Ii" this week. I is a special letter because it can make 2 sounds (a vowel)! We will continue talking about the letters in each others’ names and begin learning about where letters start (nearly all letters and numbers at the TOP)! Zero the Hero will also be visiting the class on Friday for our 30th day of Kindergarten!
We will explore and learn about PUMPKINS through stories, music, math and science. The kids will use their five senses to brainstorm descriptive words, sequence the life cycle, and make many predictions and observations during our pumpkin math stations! We will learn about circumference, weight, whether pumpkins will sink or float, count seeds, etc. I would love to have 2-3 adult volunteers for our PUMPKIN MATH STATIONS on FRIDAY. OCT. 27th from 1:00-2:15pm. The sign-up sheet is on our hallway bulletin board.

REMINDERS/HOW PARENTS CAN HELP:
- ALLERGY UPDATE: PEANUTS are now safe to have in our classroom. Eggs that are cooked into baking are also safe (e.g., muffins, cookies, etc).
- Dress your child appropriately for the weather each day (the weather is getting chilly!)
- Scrapbooks: volunteers for gluing/stapling student work into scrapbooks – they can be taken home with you or done at school (this will be an ongoing job so I usually have a parent help glue work in 1-2 times each month). Sign-up sheet on the hallway bulletin board.
- October Scholastic Book Orders due Oct. 30th. Payment can be made online (see below) or with a cheque.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
- Parkcrest Clothing Orders due (remember PAC will be a FREE t-shirt for each Kindie that returns their order form with a size selected! THANKS PAC!!)
- PAC Gift Basket Fundraiser - sign-up for our class’s “Girl aged 5-7” themed basket in the hallway
- Halloween celebrations:
- Halloween Dance in the gym October 31 - the primary students will be in the gym from 10:30-11:15am
- Please refrain from sending candy to school in your child’s lunch (during this Halloween season, but also in the future).
- I am also asking parents to refrain from sending Halloween goodies for the whole class. I do my best to follow a Healthy Schools policy in my classroom and do not give out candy or sweets as prizes. Healthy, nutritious snacks are so important to a child’s learning and overall development. Eating candy and sugary treats at school creates "hyper" behaviour, which then leads to sugar-crashes (and most often social problems and challenging behaviours). We have a Halloween Dance and some special activities planned, so that’s a treat already :).
- For future reference, if you want to send something special to school for your child’s birthday, please speak with me about some healthy options (e.g., fruit-kabobs or tray, veggie tray, homemade muffins, etc). Thanks in advance for your cooperation with this matter. :)
- they can use the washroom independently (can take costume on/off by themselves if necessary - as I will not be able to help 17 students in or out of costumes)
- It is comfortable - they can move freely/easily (can sit at carpet & at tables)
- no masks or accessories
- school appropriate (no violent costumes or weapons – even if they are props)
If your child’s costume does not meet these requirements, he/she is welcome to wear orange and black to school on Halloween. :)
See you on Monday (when my voice will hopefully be back to normal)!
