HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK:
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
This week’s Jolly Phonics letter and sound is “Ee”. We have been practicing printing numerals 0-9 for quite a few weeks and will now moving on to the capital letter section of our Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) workbooks! We will begin with “Frog Jump Capital letters" F and E. These letters are developmentally the easiest to print as they start in the “starting corner” and are made up of only straight big and little lines. This week we will continue working on printing our first names the “grade 1 way” (initial capital letter followed by lowercase letters). Please read through the orange and white HWT sheets that I sent home last Friday so you can help support your child to write his/her name with proper formation using an initial capital letter followed by lowercase letters. Remember letters and numbers start at the TOP (the kids will likely be able to sing you our song about this!). Let’s work together to help the kindies establish proper writing happens early on! :)
In Math this week, we will focus on creating and extending simple patterns (AABAAB, AABBAABB, ABCABC) with blocks, colours, our clothing and more. We are continuing to talk more about Social Responsibility, Bucket Filling and how to react to our feelings in appropriate ways (e.g., how to calm down when we are angry, how to take turns when we don’t want to share, etc). The students and I will also review "Whole Body Listening" expectations each day. Our "Listening Larry" poster reminds us what Whole Body Listening looks/sounds/feels like:
Eyes - look at the person speaking to you
Ears - both ears are ready to hear
Mouth - quiet (no talking, humming or making noises)
Hands - both quiet in lap or by your sides
Feet - both quiet on the floor (side-sit, criss-cross legs, or still in chair)
Body - faces the speaker (not laying down)
Brain - thinking about what is being said (focusing on topic)
Heart - caring about what is being said and those people near us who are trying to listen
