WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
We welcomed Mrs. Ratuski (Mrs. Dhaliwal’s replacement) last week! We also had a wonderful time sharing with the Pre-K class in South Carolina for Read Around the Planet (a big THANKS to Mrs. Gorman for sorting out the techy-side of things). March Scholastic Book orders were sent home last Friday. I forgot to mention last month, that cheques are the preferred payment method as I cannot send cash in the mail. I will look into the new “Parent online payment” options as I’m not sure about the details of how this new feature works.
Our new phonics sounds this week are “ie” and “ee/or” (as in tie, green and door). The kids are continuing to love the Jolly Phonics Smartboard program and they are learning to read 2-5 letter words now! :) In Math, we are beginning to tell simple addition and subtraction equations (aka: “math stories”) with objects, our bodies, pictures and numbers. This week our “Healthy Living” unit will continue to focus on family. Please send a family photo (it does not have to be recent, or it can be 2 separate photos if need) if you have not already done so. We will begin the “Be Safe” program this week as well. A paper newsletter will be sent home on Monday with more details about this program. Ms. Boyer (Parkcrest’s First Nations coordinator) is planning to come visit our class sometime this week as well. She will be reading a story with the kids and creating a special art project.
Kindergarten Open House (Student-lead “Brag” Night) in Ms. Gartrell’s room - March 15, 2:30-4:00 and 5:30-6:30pm. I will post a sign-up sheet in the hallway early this week to try and help alleviate all 20 families arriving at once. This will also help accommodate those families that work and need to come in the evening. The kids are very excited to be the “teacher” and show you all the amazing things they have been learning. Mrs. Hyslop and Mrs. Ratuski have decided to do their Open House later in the spring once Mrs. Ratuski has had more of a chance to settle in.
