HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK:
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
Well, June is here and the last month of school always seems to fly by with lightening-speed! Our main focus this week is creating, developing, analyzing, and sharing our Most Magnificent Thing creations.
School-wide “Most Magnificent Thing” Project-Based Learning May 23-June 9:
Last week, students attended a school-assembly to help inspire ideas and talk about this week’s plan. This week, the students will begin creating, building and developing their plan which will require critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as persevering through challenges or frustration. Thanks to those families who have already brought donations in! If you have TOILET PAPER/PAPER TOWEL ROLLS, FABRIC or FELT SCRAPS, and RIBBON - these are the items the students have requested in their planning stage :)
This week we are learning the LAST SOUND in our Jolly Phonics program - another blend “ar” (as in bark)! During group lessons and Read to Self times, the children are continuing to work on using reading strategies like picture clues, chunking, sounding-out, using first letter clues. In Printing, we will work on more lower case “diving letters” m, h and b. In Science, we are wrapping up our butterfly and insect unit. In Math, we will continue to work on subtraction. The kids loved acting out and using cubes to solve subtraction problems while we sang,“Ten in the Bed” and “5 Green and Speckled Frogs”.
Please note, many important notices and permission slips will be coming home in agendas as the end of the year approaches. Please be sure to check your child’s Back and Forth Folder every day and read/return any important papers ASAP. A permission slip for our Rainbow’s Roost Farm trip (June 14th) and Primary Fun Day (June 19th) will be sent home very soon. We will need 2-3 parent/guardian volunteers to help supervise a Rainbow’s Roost. For Primary Fun Day, we will need 7-8 parent/guardian swimmers (including at least 1 male to supervise in the boys change room). Teachers have also been asked to remind volunteers that no siblings can attend. The pool’s policy is that there MUST be ONE adult IN THE WATER for every 3 children under the age of 7. Each adult must have 3 children within an arm's reach. Our class will not be able to swim in the pool if these safety ratios are not met.
