HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK:
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
I hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day weekend! It’s bizarre to think I will be making only one more blog post after this!
We have FUN DAY at Brock Pool this Monday and the Parent Appreciation Tea on Tuesday. Thanks to those families that volunteered to bring snacks, drinks, blankets, toys, etc. to the park - especially a BIG THANK YOU to PAC for supplying the pizza! Thanks also to those adults who signed up for swimming on Friday - if this hadn’t happened, none of the class would be able to swim. For those adults who are swimming with us, we will be leaving the school after recess (so around 10:25/10:30am). Please meet up in the classroom where I will assign 3 children to each adult swimmer. We will then walk to Brock Pool all together. PLEASE REMEMBER TO READ THE FUN DAY NOTICE THAT WAS SENT HOME LAST WEEK. (I’ve summed up the info. At the bottom of this post just in case you’ve misplaced the notice).
This week in the Jolly Phonics program - we will try out a few more activities from Jolly Phonics level 2. In Printing, we will work on reviewing how to print numerals 1-10. In Socials/Physical and Health Education, we will continue with our community and safety theme. In particular, this week we will talk about “Stranger Danger Safety” and make a class book about which job the students would want to do in the community. We will also make our last self-portrait for our scrapbooks this week.

FUN DAY AT BROCK POOL - MONDAY, JUNE 19: leaving school around 10:30am to walk to pool
Please ensure your child is prepared for the weather, including waterproof sunscreen, hat, change of clothes, snacks and a water bottle. Please send your child to school in his/her bathing suit with clothes over top (this will leave more time for swimming and be easier for adult supervision in change rooms). Also remember to send a towel and plastic bag for wet items. If you would like your child to wear a life jacket from home, please send it with your child (clearly label it), as this will likely be quicker with such a large group sorting out pool’s lifejackets.
When parents arrive to school (at 10:20am), we will get into small groups of 3 students to each adult supervisor. These groups will be only for the swimming portion of the day (11-12pm). After we swim, we will have our pizza (thanks PAC!) snacks, and playtime. Some kids may want to forgo changing after swimming and leave their bathing suit on to air-dry while we play/eat on the grass. We will have time to change once we arrive back at school as well. If you are wanting your child to change be sure to pack dry clothes.
See you all Monday!
-Ms. Gartrell

- Learning a new game “Spell Back” - your kids can teach you at home ;)
- Reading sight words (words you cannot sound out phonetically) from the Level 2 “Tricky Hat”

- Return all library books as they are now overdue
- Sign Up/Confirm Adults coming to “Goodbye Kindergarten Celebration” (June 28 @ 1:40). Sheet is posted on hallway bulletin board
- Proper Footwear - running shoes are best for school (even in the hot weather, as there may be bees or insects on our playground/field).
- DO NOT SEND TOYS to school - as they are causing numerous social problems in our classroom and on the playground (we have plenty of centre toys in our classroom already) :)
UPCOMING EVENTS:

(parents are invited to visit for about a 45 minute celebration of learning).
- Sign up/Confirm on sheet in hallway if you are attending
