HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK:
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
Wow, more snow and more nasty germs going around our classroom and school! Please remember that if your child is sick, he/she needs to stay at home to recover and prevent the spread of germs. Also be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day.
This week’s Jolly Phonics letter is Ff. In Printing, we will continue working on more “frog jump capital letters”: R, N, M. We will also practice printing “8” and “9”. In Math, we will continue to work on the concept of opposites, patterning and have a visit on Thursday from Zero the Hero for our 90th day! We will also continue learning about penguins, particularly about their habitat and how they stay warm. We are not quite ready to begin a new learning theme about Healthy Living & Healthy Hearts (positive/caring relationships, family, nutrition, exercise, parts of the body), so we will pick up on this in a few weeks.

* The info below is the same as the pink paper newsletter that was sent home Friday, Feb. 3*
FEBRUARY 14th VALENTINE'S DAY – will be celebrated in our classroom on Tuesday, Feb. 14th. Students are welcome to wear pink or red. Parents are asked to work with their child to create a Valentine's “mailbox” to bring to school with his/her Valentines. The children will be provided with a brown paper lunch bag and a “heart animal” to colour, cut, and glue on their lunch bag (assembly directions will be included). Please ensure your child's name is clearly printed on the bag so everyone can read it when we deliver cards in the afternoon. The bag will be sent home on Tuesday, February 14th, full of valentines for your child to open with you at home.
We strive to be an inclusive and caring classroom; therefore, if your child is giving out Valentines please include ALL the children. A class list of names is found on the pink paper newsletter (for privacy reasons, I do not publish students’ names online).
We would love to celebrate Valentine's day with some healthy snacks (please remember we promote healthy living and eating habits in our classroom, if candy is given out by students it will be brought home in the Valentine's bags). A sign-up sheet for snacks and non-food items (napkins, paper plates) is posted on the bulletin board outside our classroom. This will help make sure we aren’t wasting food or eating too much and getting tummy aches! :) Thanks so much!
100th DAY OF KINDERGARTEN – Students are encouraged to create a collection of 100 with anything they like (preferably objects that are easy to transport to and from school). Some favourite collections are 100 pasta noodles, coins, toothpicks, stickers, cereal, or beads. Please have your child group the objects in groups of 10 and label 10, 20, 30, etc. before bringing the
collection to school. I would suggest making a poster display or storing the objects in ziplock bags, an empty egg carton or tupperware containers, etc. Students can bring their collections to school on the 25th when we will have a fun-filled day of 100 activities and games.
I will be looking for 4 or 5 parent/grandparent volunteers to help out with 100 day activities between 10:30-11:50 am on the 27th. If you are able, please sign up on the Parent-Volunteer sheet (outside our classroom door) or send me a note in your child's agenda. Thanks for your help! :)
- Reading books about Groundhog day and graphing our predictions
- Printing our very best “P”, “R” and 8’s in our Handwriting Without Tears workbooks (HWT)
- Beginning to use our “Stamina Book Bags” for quiet Read-to-Self time each day (Mrs. Buchart came into our class to help us with Read-to-Self expectations)
- Writing a Valentine for each Busy Bee about what each of us appreciate/like/think he/she is good at
- Working on an ongoing penguin art project
- Finding answers to some of our penguin “Wonder Wall” questions
