We have a busy last week before Winter break begins! We will have a dress rehearsal for the school concert on Tuesday. Concerts will be held at 1:00pm on Weds (for families with surnames A-L) and Thursday (families with surnames M-Z). Please send your child dressed (or send clothes to school that your child can change into before going on stage) Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Kindies will wear black pants/skirt/tights and a white or red shirt (please avoid logos - or turn the shirt inside out). Girls can wear a red or white party dress if they’d rather. Also keep safe footwear in mind, the kids will be walking up and down some metal stairs independently so high-heeled party shoes can be dangerous. Parkcrest is also asking families to bring a food donation to our Winter Concert. This will be added to the Hunger Heroes collection boxes. Remember the school with the heaviest amount of food will win a pizza party from Papa Johns!
There seem to be quite a few students and teacher in the school fighting off coughs/colds. Kindergarten especially, is what I call a "germ-factory". If your child is not feeling well please keep him/her home (even if it’s the Winter concert) so the germs don't spread to everyone else and we can have a healthy, happy 2-week holiday break. :) I’d also like to give a friendly reminder about arriving to school on time as attendance is taken promptly at 8:30am. If you know your child will be late, please contact the Safe Arrival system prior to 8:30am, or the system will continue to call the numbers you have listed. Many of our independent routines occur right at the start of our day, if a child arrives late, he/she misses this opportunity to show he/she is responsible.
The kids are continuing to work on being independent with morning routines and dressing themselves for recess and lunch. Please work with your child on doing up his/her own ZIPPERS at home. The routine we use at school for putting on our snow-gear is as follows:
1: snowpants
2: coats
3: pinnies
4: toques/scarves
5: mittens
LAST: boots. (boots must be carried back and forth from the hallway boot racks to the carpeted area at the front entrance)
HIGHLIGHT FROM LAST WEEK:
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
We will focus on the letter “Mm” this week. In Math, we will have a visit from Zero the Hero on Tuesday - the 60th day of Kindergarten (wow, how time flies!). We will also focus on strengthening our fine motor skills/pencil grip and printing the numbers 1-4 correctly. The kids have loved using the Handwriting Without Tears songs to reinforce that we start letters/numbers from the top and how to sit up straight in our chair when we print (using the song “Stomp Our Feet”). In Art, we will be busy finishing up our Winter-themed creations and our surprises for our families. Due to the holiday break, our library books from this week MUST BE RETURNED BY FRIDAY, DEC. 16.
The Gr.5/6s will be holding a fundraiser for the Salvation Army and Food bank this week, called “Santa’s Workshop”, where crafts and baked goodies will be on sale for 50 cents-$1. The “workshop” will be open at recess and lunch this Weds. and Thurs.
