WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
I trust everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! It was wonderful to have so many families attend our Kindergarten Open House that happened just before Spring Break. I’m sure many of you were proud to see how much your children have progressed this year. :)
We have a 3.5-day week ahead of us due to Monday being a PRO-D day and Thursday begin an early dismissal day (12:30pm dismissal). I was able to touch-base with most families at our Kindergarten Open House, so I have not made a formal parent/teacher interview schedule for Thursday. I was also hoping that families who were unable to attend the March 15th Open House could stop by on Thursday 7th anytime between 1:30-3:00pm.
Our new phonics letter and sound this week is “w”. We will begin a new theme this week about Nursery Rhymes. The children will be reading and working through their own nursery rhyme booklets over the next few weeks. The students have been learning about independent reading (aka: Read to Self). They have been working very hard to sustain quiet reading with their special Book Bags, Whisper Tubes and Turtle Spot Pillows (these pillows are extra special because Ms. Gartrell make these with her own Mom and Grandma!). In Math, we are continuing to work on simple addition and subtraction equations using nursery rhyme storylines and characters (e.g., Baa Baa Black sheep had __ bag of wool for his master + __ bag for his dame = ___ bags of wool).
The kids also requested I post a link to the instructions to a special science experiment we did on St. Patrick's Day. You can try making your own "Rainbow in a Jar" at home with ingredients you likely already have in your house, just click on this link - Rainbow in a Jar :)
