WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK:
We have a Young People’s Concert first thing Monday morning (my apologies for forgetting to add this to last week’s blog entry). School-wide running will begin this week. All students in the school will be participating in 5-15 minute DPA (mandated Daily Physical Activity) runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays right before the lunch bell. Kindergarten students will be running around the school field (inside fenced perimeter). Please ensure your child has running shoes and comfy clothing he/she can run in.
Our new phonics sounds and letter and sound this week are “ng” (e.g. strong) and “v”. The students will continue reading various nursery rhymes this week. They have enjoyed being “Rhyme Detectives” to circle rhyming words in their booklets. The kids built their “Read to Self” stamina up to 9 minutes of quiet, independent reading last week.
In Math, we will being to work on telling time to the hour (Hickory Dickory Dock) as well as continuing to work on simple addition and subtraction equations using nursery rhyme storylines and characters (e.g., Baa Baa Black sheep had __ bag of wool for his master + __ bag for his dame = ___ bags of wool).
